The 76ers are heading into the stretch run hoping to move into the Eastern Conference's fifth playoff position. They're sixth with a 29-29 record after dropping to 0-3 this season against the Magic, the team they'd likely face in the first round if they remain sixth. For the Sixers to improve their position—or have a shot at winning a series—they're going to have to do a better job finishing games. They've lost seven games on shots in the final 30 seconds and have won none in similar fashion. "We've taken it on the chins six or seven times," guard Willie Green said. The Sixers get a nice break after facing the Mavericks on Monday afternoon at the Wachovia Center. They don't play again until Saturday night against the visiting Knicks. They can use it, as Monday's meeting with Dallas follows back-to-back games Friday and Saturday evenings. Since the start time for the Martin Luther King Day contest is 1 p.m., it means the Sixers will play three games in a total of 68 hours. "That's crazy," guard Willie Green said. "That's three games in a short period of time." Given the up-tempo style the Sixers prefer and all the running they do, having three games in such a short time would seem to be a distinct disadvantage for them.
